Just screw it!

Update on DH...

Surgery happened on July 17th, he got a plate and 6 screws, plus stitches! All went well and he spent the next 10 days immobilized in a fancy arm sling.  At the followup they took the xray above, said it looked good and not to use the shoulder at all beyond letting it hang free sometimes, plus lower arm exercises, no force and no lifting above the head and keep wearing the sling.  We go back in 4 weeks.

This is basically what was done: http://radiology.casereports.net/index.php/rcr/article/viewArticle/325/639

It also talks about why the device has to be removed, basically it impinges on the joint and can cause arthritis or other fractures.  Hoping for removal in 3 to 4 months.

Basically, we're settling in to a new normal.  We did half days back at work last week, and are going to attempt full days this week. Yippee!

Hurdles...

Well, they say go BIG or go HOME! Gotta hand it to DH...he WENT BIG, as in big bycycle wreck on his hand cycle on Saturday.  Won't go into the gory details, suffice to say he flipped the thing onto hot pavement going about 20 mph.  An ambulance ride to the E.R. was needed. He has a broken clavicle, two suture sites on his face and multiple, scrapes, cuts, road rash, bruises, etc. He is lucky and wants to tell everyone that WEARING A HELMET SAVED HIM!  So do it! NO EXCUSES!

Since DH is a paraplegic and very active, including being in training for a marathon, we sought out the orthopedic MD ASAP...Monday.  Of course DH broke a difficult to repair spot and with his demands on that part of the body, etc. he's been referred to a specialist.  Here's hoping they can do a surgery soon that will give him the greatest recovery and range of motion!

This is just a hurdle...you have to take them one at a time...
